Tia Mariposa I by Lawrence Lee

Lawrence Lee, a professional artist with over 40 years of experience, is releasing his Tia Mariposa I piece of art on KnownOrigin on the 18th of March. Lawrence Lee is famous for his iconic shamanistic images as well as his children’s book: “The Mirror,” which is the first ever children’s book to be created entirely on a computer in color. About forty years ago, Lawrence Lee created a series of works depicting abstracted young women with heart-shaped faces and squash-blossom hairdos. Tia Mariposa I (Tia means aunt, mariposa means butterfly) is a revisited imagery of the series. The artist stripped out parts of the original image and replaced them: some with graded fills and some with subtle animation. This artwork is an embodiment of dramatic mystery and calmness.
